Buffalo Friends will host a talk and discussion to be led by Avis Wanda McClinton after Worship on Sunday, 3/30, at approximately 12:30. Everyone is invited to attend.
Avis Wanda McClinton, an African American Quaker and member of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, is the founder of the 339 Manumissions and Beyond Project. She is a preservationist who has been researching the manumissions (release from slavery) for some 339 Africans enslaved by Philadelphia area Quakers, and to find the enslaveds' descendants. Quakers were involved in the slave trade, and a substantial number held people in bondage from the 1680’s to 1750’s.
Here is a link to information on Avis’ project that outlines her work and perspective. The article was published in the January 2023 Friends Journal.
