The Inner Guide versus the Inner Critic - the Journey from Judgement to Love

Most of us would agree that we have an Inner Critic, the voice of a critical parent, teacher, or other that we internalized in childhood.  Sometimes it’s loud, sometimes more muted - but that Inner Critic can drown out the voice of our loving Inner Guide whose leadings enable us to serve Spirit and forward us in our spiritual growth.

Join Friends in a two-session exploration of our Inner Critic and our Inner Guide. Identify your Inner Critic’s voice, the occasions when it may kick in, the purpose it may serve, and how you might give it a rest.  How sometimes that critical and judgmental inner voice can direct your life, or may be directed outward at another. And identify the voice of your loving Inner Guide - how it speaks to you, the effect your Guide has on your actions and emotional/spiritual life, and how you can become more aware of it to discern the Divine, mysterious leadings that can enrich and inform our lives.

This exploration will take place at the rise of Worship on the second Sunday in April (4/14) and first Sunday in May (5/5), facilitated by Ginny Riordan and Anne Huiner.  We will use reflection, journaling, sharing (as led) with a partner or in small groups, and some drawing/doodling to drill down and unleash powerful positive potential. Please bring your explorer’s mindset, a notebook and writing tool.  Any art materials will be provided.  Please be aware that this is not therapy, but a self-reflective journey towards freedom and love.
